Werner Pfeiffer
Artist
Werner Pfeiffer is an artist who has done many works. He has received many awards, such as from The New York Art Directors Club, The New York Type Directors Club, the New York Society of Illustrators, and the American Institute of Graphic Arts. His design work has been widely published in international design literature in magazines such as Graphis, Gebrauchsgrafik, Print, Modern Publicity and Art Direction.
In 1969 he was appointed Professor of Art at Pratt Institute in New York. At the same time, he became director of the Pratt Adlib Press, and began to concentrate increasingly on his own work as sculptor, printmaker and painter.
His books, collages, drawings, prints, paintings and sculptures have been shown internationally in more than 100 group exhibitions and in over 70 solo shows throughout the United States and in Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, Israel, Sweden, and Switzerland. His work is held by, for example, the Art Institute in Chicago, Badische Landesbibliothek, the Boston Museum of Fine Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Library of Congress, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the National Museum in Stockholm, and the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
Over the years he has received public sculpture commissions from the State of Connecticut, The Federal Government of Germany, the State of Niedersachsen in Germany and the State of Massachusetts, as well as projects for corporations such as Baxter International and The Hartford Insurance Group.
Pfeiffer joined the Connecticut Forum panel on the Wonders of Creativity on February 6, 1999.
