As lead vocalist, guitarist and composer with Phish, Trey Anastasio has led the band from its Burlington, Vermont beginnings to its status as one of the top concert draws in the country. Since October 2000, however, Phish has been on hiatus from recording and touring, leaving Anastasio free for other projects. In early 2001, he composed his first piece for full orchestra, a version of Phish's Guyute. It debuted at Burlington's Flynn Theatre in February, performed by the Vermont Youth Orchestra.

Anastasio has toured several times with his own band, most notably in a nationwide amphitheatre tour in the summer of 2001; he will release his first solo album next spring. He last toured with Oysterhead, a trio also featuring Primus bassist Les Claypool and ex-Police drummer Stewart Copeland. The group's debut album, The Grand Pecking Order, was released in October on Elektra Entertainment.

A resident of Vermont for over 17 years, Anastasio has been an active supporter of various Vermont environmental and social outreach programs. For example, as a strong believer in the importance of music education and the powerful impact music participation has on students he has been a visiting artist at local Burlington-area schools for the past several years.
